Planet Fitness is a low-price, high-volume gym chain. Its own homepage says so plainly — the brand is described as “A Gym and Fitness Club for Everyone”, and both membership tiers are quoted on that page. Those two tier names, and the fact that the price is published on the brand’s own site, are the durable facts here. Everything else on this page is either a clause from the brand’s own pages or explicitly a place where we could not read something.
One thing to know before you compare it with anything: Planet Fitness’s own homepage is the only page we could read. /sitemap.xml, /about-us, /membership, /faq, /black-card and /clubs all returned a 389-byte application shell with no title and no text. So the two published prices below are the brand’s, but a notice period or a cancellation fee is not something we can quote.
What matters when choosing Planet Fitness
Two tiers, and the difference between them is club access. The homepage quotes PF Black Card® as “Starting at $24.99/mo*, plus taxes & fees”, described as “Access to any club, bring a guest anytime, PF+ premium digital workouts, and so much more!” and badged “Best Value”. Classic is quoted as “Starting at $15/mo*, plus taxes & fees” and “Our standard membership, with unlimited access to your home club.” The asterisk is the brand’s own, and the “starting at” wording is the brand’s — the real figure is set per club, because Planet Fitness operates through franchised locations.
The $9.99-a-month gap is the difference between one club and any club. Classic’s own description limits it to your home club; Black Card says “Access to any club”. If you will ever train anywhere other than the club you joined at, that difference is the whole decision, and it costs more per month than the entire Classic membership costs.
No published notice period and no cancellation terms were readable. The homepage carries no cancellation, notice or contract text at all — our probes for “cancel”, “notice” and “contract” all returned zero hits. The page therefore does not state a notice period, and does not state whether one exists. Before joining, ask for the cancellation notice period in writing, because we could not read it.
No annual fee figure was readable either. The homepage mentions “annual fee” once, but our extraction did not capture a number attached to it. An earlier version of this page carried a “$49 Annual Fee” for both tiers; we have not carried that over, because we could not re-read a figure for it.
Equipment is named at the category level, not the item level. The brand says both tiers “get you access to The Judgement Free Zone®, and tons of cardio and strength equipment.” It does not publish an equipment list, a free-weight ceiling or a squat-rack count on any page we could read, so this page states none. An earlier version carried specific limits — barbells, squat racks and dumbbells above 60–75 lb — and those are removed rather than restated, because we could not source them.
Both tiers are described as including digital workouts only on the higher one. Black Card’s own description includes “PF+ premium digital workouts”; Classic’s does not mention them. That is the brand’s wording, not our test of the service.
Class group exercise is not a published feature on either tier. Nothing on the homepage names classes, studios or scheduled group sessions. This page does not claim they are absent — we could not read the pages that would say — but a reader who wants a class timetable should ask before joining rather than infer it from the tier names.
Before you join
- Ask for the cancellation notice period in writing. Nothing on the brand’s published pages gave us a figure, and this is the clause that decides how long a commitment actually lasts.
- Ask whether an annual fee applies and what it is. The brand’s homepage mentions the concept without a readable number.
- Check which tier your club actually sells. The homepage prices are “starting at” figures, and the brand operates through franchised clubs.
- Get the club’s own equipment list if you train with barbells or a squat rack. The brand publishes no equipment specification anywhere we could read.

✓ Strategic Strengths
- We hold no sourced strengths list for this brand. This is a gap in our record, not a finding: the strengths of a brand that publishes no specification sheet, no warranty schedule and no price list cannot be asserted from a record we do not have.
! Operational Risks
- We hold no sourced risks list for this brand. We have not audited it, so we are not going to report that we found nothing: an empty record is not a clean result.
