Basic-Fit operates a low-cost gym chain across six European countries, selling memberships direct rather than through health clubs or a franchise network. Its corporate site lists club counts by country: France 902, Netherlands 250, Spain 241, Belgium 241, Germany 74 and Luxembourg 10. Equipment comes from a single supplier.

What matters when choosing a Basic-Fit club

The tier you buy decides which clubs you can use. On its own pricing page Basic-Fit shows three tiers with very different reach. Comfort, at €24,99 per four weeks, is described as giving access to clubs in the Netherlands. Premium at €29,99 and Ultimate at €34,99 both describe access across Europe. Ultimate is the tier the page labels Best value.

The membership term is longer than a month and cancelling early does not end it. The page states that a Year membership has a minimum paid term of 52 weeks, that it then continues automatically and can be cancelled with four weeks’ notice. It also states you can cancel before the end of the minimum term but that the membership remains active until the agreed end date. Flex costs an extra €9,99 every four weeks and can be cancelled at any time on the same notice, but annual welcome offers do not apply to it.

Equipment is specified as one supplier’s, not a range. Basic-Fit states that all its clubs are equipped with machines from Matrix. That is a single-supplier commitment and it applies to every club.

Before you join

  • Read the notice period and the minimum term before you sign, and check whether you want Year or Flex. Flex costs more and offers the shorter commitment.
  • Check opening hours for your specific club rather than the chain. Basic-Fit states that 24/7 access is available at some clubs, and that anyone training in a 24/7 club between 22:30 and 07:00 must be at least 18. It also states independent training from age 16, and ages 14 to 15 with someone aged 16 or over present.
  • Assume live classes are not everywhere. The chain’s own wording is that live group classes are included at clubs that offer them.

✓ Strategic Strengths

  • We hold no sourced strengths list for this brand. This is a gap in our record, not a finding: the strengths of a brand that publishes no specification sheet, no warranty schedule and no price list cannot be asserted from a record we do not have.

! Operational Risks

  • We hold no sourced risks list for this brand. We have not audited it, so we are not going to report that we found nothing: an empty record is not a clean result.
