PureGym publishes its membership terms on one page and its prices on another, and the two matter separately: the price is set by the gym you join, while the cancellation rules are national. Reading the terms before choosing a club is the more useful order of the two.

What matters when choosing PureGym

There is a fourteen-day cooling-off period with a full refund. The terms state you are entitled to cancel and “receive a full refund of any fees paid if you let us know no later than 14 days after the date when this contract came into existence.” Cancellation in that window goes by email to member.services@puregym.com, and the refund comes “within 14 days of you telling us you’ve changed your mind.”

The monthly membership stops on four working days’ notice, not a month’s. For flexible Monthly Memberships, “your membership auto-renews monthly and we will continue to take the Monthly Membership fees by direct debit unless and until you or we cancel your membership.” Practically, that means cancelling through the online cancellation service up to four working days before your payment date, or cancelling directly with your bank and allowing four working days. There is no long notice period to serve out.

Fixed-term memberships do not roll over, and ending one early costs you half. A 6, 9 or 12-month membership “will run for the length of the Fixed Term and then automatically terminate”, and the terms say explicitly that “There is no auto-renewal of Fixed Term memberships.” Cancelling early by email entitles you to ask for “a refund of 50% of the pro-rata’d proportion of the fees paid for the Fixed Term which relate to the period” after cancellation. Commit & Save variants are the exception: their cancellation terms “will be specified in the information provided to you on your purchase”, so they are not readable on this page.

The price and the joining fee belong to the club, not the brand. PureGym’s joining page lists a monthly figure and a joining fee per gym, with observed monthly prices from about £17.99 to £41.99 and joining fees from £9.99 to £20, several of them reduced for an opening period. Anyone comparing two clubs is comparing two different products.

Two other terms shape the first month. A failed payment carries “an administration fee of £5” if you pay it online, and price rises on a flexible monthly membership come with “at least 30 days’ notice.” Freezing is possible but conditional — “You may be entitled to freeze your membership either at a cost or for no charge depending on the type of membership you have”, with the detail held in your joining email rather than published.

Before you join

  • Check the monthly price and joining fee for the specific gym you will actually use, not the brand-wide figure.
  • Use the fourteen-day cooling-off period to leave if the club is wrong, and keep the email that cancels it.
  • If you are stopping a monthly membership, cancel four working days before your payment date rather than waiting until the last day.
  • If you are signing up for a fixed term or a Commit & Save variant, get the early-cancellation terms in writing first, because they are not published for the latter.

The scores here are our editorial assessments, entered by hand from published manufacturer specifications and market sources. We do not operate gyms, test equipment, or hold device telemetry.

✓ Strategic Strengths

  • We hold no sourced strengths list for this brand. This is a gap in our record, not a finding: the strengths of a brand that publishes no specification sheet, no warranty schedule and no price list cannot be asserted from a record we do not have.

! Operational Risks

  • We hold no sourced risks list for this brand. We have not audited it, so we are not going to report that we found nothing: an empty record is not a clean result.
