NordicTrack sells connected home cardio, and the two things a buyer usually wants from a manufacturer’s site — the warranty term and the cost of trying the machine and returning it — are both handled in a way worth reading before you buy. The warranty is not on the website at all, and the home trial has a shipping charge attached to it.

What matters when choosing NordicTrack

There is no warranty term on NordicTrack’s website. The warranty lives in the manual for your exact model. The warranty page says: “Each product comes with its own specific warranty, which is described in the user’s manual. The user’s manual is included in the box and is also available in our online manuals library. To locate the user’s manual for your product in the online manuals library, you will need to search by the specific product name or model number.” That is the manufacturer’s own instruction, and it is the whole of the published policy: find your model number, then find its manual. A machine’s frame, motor and parts are covered differently from one another, so the model number is not a formality.

The 30-day home trial is not a free return. The published promotion terms read: “30 Day Home Trial Promotion (‘Offer’) is valid for residents in Canada and the United States who are at least the age of majority in their jurisdiction. To initiate a return, contact Customer Service within 30 days of delivery to schedule your pickup. Eligible returns will be refunded at the purchase price less a $249.99 return shipping charge. Delivery and assembly costs are non-refundable.” Both charges come off your money regardless of how the machine performed, and you pay them before you know whether it works in your space.

The price guarantee has its own conditions. The NordicTrack Best Price Guarantee applies to “qualifying purchases made directly on www.nordictrack.com”, is for United States residents 18 and over, and “applies to new, standalone equipment purchases only and excludes backorders, pre-sale or out-of-stock items, pricing or typographical errors, financing-only offers, coupon stacks”. Buying from a third-party retailer puts you outside it.

Before you buy

• Find the model number, then read that model’s manual in the iCON library for the actual warranty terms before you commit — the website will not give them to you.
• If you are relying on the home trial, price the machine as if you are keeping it: add the $249.99 return shipping plus the non-refundable delivery and assembly to what the refund would leave you.
• Buy direct if you want the price guarantee to apply at all, and check whether the model you want is excluded for backorder or stock reasons.
• Confirm the return window runs from delivery, not from order, and that you must contact customer service to start it.
